Federal Foam Technologies is proud to announce it has received an Ecovadis bronze sustainability rating for its business operations and performance in 2023. Ecovadis is a globally trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, with a network of more than 130,000 companies.
The Ecovadis assessment measures four major categories: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement. Federal Foam’s 2024 report highlights include:
- An overall score of 63 out of 100, which is in the top 14% of companies in its industry, classified as manufacturing of plastic products,
- A score in the top 14% for Labor & Human Rights among companies in its industry and
- A score in the top 8% for Ethics among companies in its industry.
In 2023, Federal Foam earned a silver rating from Ecovadis. While the company scored similarly with improvements in certain areas for 2024, Ecovadis made changes to their reporting structure, which impacted Federal Foam’s rating.
The Importance of Sustainability at Federal Foam
Sustainability has always been at the forefront of Federal Foam’s operations. The company continually looks at ways to reduce its environmental footprint by responsibly recycling its scrap material for reuse and sourcing sustainable materials that promote end of life with its customers’ products.
“Sustainability is part of our core value of Environment and the goal of limiting our environmental impact, as well as that of our customers,” says Wyman Smith, President of Federal Foam. “While some of this is driven by our customers and legislation, being a responsible, environmentally friendly company is something we highly value and reflect with our business operations and decisions.”
With Federal Foam’s commitment to a culture of continuous improvement, the company has created a centralized procurement function to lead sourcing efforts. One of the goals is to source more sustainable materials for customers without sacrificing quality and performance, while balancing cost effectiveness. An example is recycled plastic content for trim and molded component parts that go into heavy equipment used for agriculture and construction.
Additionally, Federal Foam has undertaken Scope 1-3 reporting, with a heavy focus on Scope 3 that measures indirect emissions of downstream activities, which includes a company’s supply chain. While Scope 3 satisfies several customers’ requirements to understand the emissions impact of their supply chain, it’s also an opportunity for Federal Foam to evaluate its supply chain and make it more sustainable.
“Continuous improvement is key focus of ours, and that includes making our products and operations more sustainable,” says Todd Kidder, EVP of Sales & Marketing at Federal Foam. “It’s a process and won’t happen overnight, however we are taking a proactive approach so that we are prepared for any changes, whether from customers or legislative wise, that come our way.”
